There is no clear standard for the replacement time of elevator steel wire ropes, mainly based on the specific wear and tear of the elevator steel wire ropes. When there are broken wires or other factors that affect normal use, it is recommended to replace them.

The Housing Reform Commission once suggested that elevators should be used, with medium maintenance every three years and major repairs every five years. But there is no need to implement it, just a suggestion. Also, it depends on how the maintenance contract for the elevator is signed. Another consideration is whether the operating capacity of the elevator is large or not, which will affect the wear and tear of the steel wire rope. Overall, due to factors such as frequency of use, load condition, and proper maintenance, there is no time limit for scrapping elevator traction wire ropes.
However, there are scrapping standards, as stipulated in GB7588 and TSG T7001: In one of the following situations, the traction compensation wire rope should be scrapped:
1. Cage shaped distortion, rope core extrusion, twisting, partial flattening, and bending;
2. Broken wires scattered throughout the entire steel wire rope, with a single strand having more than 4 broken wires within any one lay length; Or the broken wires are concentrated in a certain part or strand of the steel wire rope, and the total number of broken wires within a lay distance is greater than 12 (for steel wire ropes with 6 strands) or 16 (for steel wire ropes with 8 strands);
3. The diameter of the worn wire rope is less than 90% of the nominal diameter of the wire rope. In addition, it is also required that the fixing of the wire rope end should be reliable, and the connecting components such as springs, nuts, and split pins should be free of defects.
